Ok Oppo, I’m not going to get all sentimental up in here. It’s only been a few years for me.

Almost 4...wow.

Kinja'd!!!

Anywho, my girlfriend wanted to ask the group she affectionately calls “the car nerds” for some thoughts on something important. I didn’t advertise here but back in April, she was upgraded from “ girlfriend ” to “ fiancé ”. We went on a kind of spur of the moment trip to NYC and at the only part of the day that wasn’t raining I proposed in Times Square with my good friend and his wife helping out. It was a long time coming but I told her long ago that I wouldn’t discuss it until everything in my life felt stable...and my new job, new apartment and general new disposition on life gave me that. Best part is, she never saw the proposal coming. (I also knocked the ring out of the park)

Fast forward to last week and she was curious about thoughts/recommendations from you guys for our wedding day vehicle. I thought we’d just do the usual limo thing blah blah blah but she thought - 1) it’d be cool and 2) I’d like - something different would be a good idea. I could look up classic cars, rent a sports car or something (friend has a discount at a rental) or anything within my virtually non-existent budget.

So, Oppo...let’s have it. To counter the blah vibe of the day, hit me with anything you got (serious and otherwise).

First congrats! Now for a suggestion. A friend of mine in Virginia just posted a pic this week on a forum of a 50-60's Rolls Royce that his boss bought just to restore for his daughters wedding. It looks so full of class. I’d say you try and rent something of that same vintage in a Bentley or Rolls.

A fair number of people seem to go with the sleek old classics from decades like the 30s and 40s, which are pretty cool. A friend of mine did it, and it looked really cool.

However, my vote for something classy to roll away in would be one of the following (both found for rental in MA):

1937 Cadillac 85 Series Sedan

1971 Jaguar E-Type

It’s great to take suggestions, but I think you already know the answer — what is it that you really like? Is driving off in a 65 Mustang your thing, or would you rather take off in a supercar? (And if you have a supercar, is your new wife going to be happy when you want to drive it around instead of going to the hotel for whoopee?) Or get that 6-wheel Land Rover fire truck that DeMuro featured a couple of months ago!

1963 Continental Convertible.

OOOOOOH YEAH.

Or a 67 Imperial

Both have huge back seats ;)

Borrow a classic if at all possible. I have a buddy with a ‘53 XK120 FHC who was gracious enough to offer it for my wedding.

We did the limo thing, but it was a 1940s-era long wheelbase thing. I honestly can’t remember because there was about 50 other details in the wedding that took priority. Total gangsta car, timeless, and it made for great photos. We literally took it straight from our venue to the airport to leave for our honeymoon, so it was actually a functional trip, not just for show.

Rally car.

Kinja'd!!!

I seriously wanted to do this, and have enough rally friends that I could probably con into a loan. But we opted for a tiny private ceremony at Disney, and that idea didn’t fit in.

No regrets, though. Congrats on leveling up!

I think thats a cool idea. I wanted to do something similar at my wedding but ran out of time/money to plan and make it happen. It kind of worked out though, we got married up in Baltimore and it was a short distance from the chapel to the reception, and reception to the hotel, so I wouldn’t have gotten to drive it much at all.

But I do have a friend who rented a Lamborghini Gallardo Spider. It was very cool, and he had a blast with it.

Just try to get something that you’ll enjoy, and if you can’t find a cool rental, maybe consider a classic limousine instead of a run of mill Lincoln or Cadillac. If you’re getting married near DC, there’s an engineer I work with who has a side business chauffeuring weddings in his old Rolls Royce. And I’m sure there are similar businesses all over the country.

Either way, congratulations on the engagement and good luck!

Some limo companies will have vintage car used for weddings. It is generally a 70-90s Rolls. Which they got for extremely cheap and painted it white.

We went with a motorized trolley (not me pictured). The wedding party loved it.

My suggestion is to get a rental with a driver, for a few reasons. First, your family and friends won’t f#$% up your car. Second, you’ll be all manner of strung out from wedding stuff and probably drunk. Third, you can get something cool like a 1940's rolls royce like we did. It was awesome. The car even broke down, we had to stop and put oil in it, and I got to help fix the car while we were driving away. It was awesome.

Oh, and another reason, you can drive around in said awesome car, and get some after the wedding photos with the photographer without the family anywhere around photobombing that shit.

I would highly recommend a Cyclone.

If not, a 60's Cougar. It’s like a Mustang - but classy.
